Pelorus Yachting Announces New CA for Charter, Captain Arctic by Selar
Available for Private Charter December 2026
New York–November 14, 2024–Pelorus Yachting, experiential specialists in yacht charter, announces the arrival of CAPTAIN ARCTIC by Selar, the world’s first close to zero-carbon emission luxury yacht on the market, to its fleet of game-changing expedition yachts, available for charter all year round from December 2026. This 230-foot pioneering vessel will be the first truly sustainable polar expedition vessel on the market, operating in Norway, Svalbard and Greenland, cruising off-the-beaten-path routes with a highly experienced crew of polar experts, for just 30 guests.
CAPTAIN ARCTIC by Selar, which is available for private charter exclusively through Pelorus Yachting, will have five rigid solar patented sails, each holding 2 x 100 sqm panels, creating a highly distinctive silhouette and harnessing energy 24 hours per day to power all of the onboard requirements. The yacht will cruise without any noise, vibration or smell and will save 90% CO2 compared to any ship of the region and can run on vegetable oil if the wind and solar power lags. CAPTAIN ARCTIC will sleep up to 30 guests in 16 cabins, one of which is wheelchair accessible, alongside a team of five guides.
Pelorus Yachting sees a vessel as a unique platform for extraordinary experiences, creating groundbreaking adventures that leave long-lasting memories for its guests. As the only Central Agent for private charter in both the yacht and travel sectors, the team pushes the boundaries of the yacht charter and management industry by offering more than any other traditional yacht brokerage company. A shared thirst for responsible adventure has brought CAPTAIN ARCTIC and Pelorus Yachting together with the aim of helping guests live in the moment and experience nature in its purest form, whilst connecting with local communities.
Each expedition will be led by skilled polar navigators who will organize a wealth of experiences, from observing polar bears and hiking on the ice edge above 80°, to enjoying a hot chocolate in a driftwood hut and kayaking the icy waters to the backdrop of a deep blue glacier. All the while, Pelorus Yachting will be on hand to curate out-of-the-ordinary experiences as part of bespoke itineraries according to the needs of private charter guests.
CAPTAIN ARCTIC’s arsenal of water toys will be extensive and the team is currently working on the details of the charter program of experiences that will unlock these destinations for travelers fascinated by the polar regions and looking to engage in exciting, adventurous conservation-led activities.
The yacht interiors are being designed by designer Joséphine Fossey, renowned for her work on the Iconic Houses collection, and guests can expect a warm palette of colors, a mid-century design sensibility, filled with textural comfort and Swedish-French influences consistent with the heritage of both designer and Captain. She will be an intimate home in which to retreat to after a day of exploring the Arctic, with each sumptuous suite offering a place to relax and enjoy views out onto the horizon. She will also have a fitness room, sauna and polar plunge, with stunning views for that true cold-water experience as well as a spacious dining room and library. Guests will be able to relax in the multiple socializing spaces, such as the 1920s-style bar, or take it slow in the dedicated silent room, perfect for taking in the view and enjoying the majesty of the polar landscapes. There will also be an onboard science lab, focused on advancing discovery and environmental protection of the polar regions.
CAPTAIN ARCTIC’s Captain, Sophie Galvagnon, has worked in the yachting industry for over 17 years as a captain and an ice pilot, and is highly focused on what it is that modern, polar travelers need, as well as what the fragile environments her yachts will be cruising in, deserve. This desire to leave a positive, lasting impact on the planet is closely aligned with Pelorus Yachting’s approach to travel planning and the brand’s core values.
She is set to cruise the following destinations each year:
Svalbard: March - August: Discover the untouched beauty of Svalbard, where Arctic wilderness meets unparalleled adventure. Set against a backdrop of towering glaciers, majestic fjords, and the midnight sun, Svalbard offers a journey into one of the world’s last true frontiers. Northern Norway: November - February: Explore the gateway to the Arctic, where polar adventures come to life. Observe the Aurora Borealis dancing over stunning fjords and connect with the spirit of legendary polar explorers.
