Food is one of the most pleasurable ways for me to learn about a different culture when traveling. Visit the local markets, take a cooking class, taste the local wines, cafe sit...it's all research.

Once a month I organize a group of volunteers and we help pack more than 1,000 emergency food boxes at the nation’s first food bank here in Phoenix. Everyone has the right to a nutritious meal.

When I want to clear my head, I walk up the street to the Phoenix Art Museum and sit in front of Mohl ip, the James Turrell "Tall Glass" installation. The shifting color is a visual mantra for meditation.

Ever since hiking the Milford Track in New Zealand, I've enjoyed long walks. Recently I logged 165 miles on the Camino de Santiago from Leon to Santiago, Spain. I didn’t always follow the directions, convinced there was a more scenic route.
